Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions, and not just about berries!  Here are answers to some of the more common questions, but if you want to know anything else, please contact us.

What do you do when the shop is closed?

We holiday in February then spend time at school, play centre, camping, running, biking. Work on the farm starts again in May when we start planting strawberries.  In July we hang the bramble canes and before we know it, the season is on again!

What is a bramble?

Brambles are thorny plants of the genus Rubus, in the rose family. Bramble fruit is the fruit of any such plant, including the blackberry, raspberry and boysenberry.

What is a Ranui?

The Ranui Berry is a hybrid berry achieved by crossing Auroraberry and Marionberry in the New Zealand breeding programme. The result is a sweet and juicy Blackberry: one of our favourites.

How much do you spray?

Only when necessary. We do monitoring of pest and disease we use phermore traps (they are the small yellow container around the farm) to trap pests. We adhere to NZ gap and growsafe certifications.

Do you take orders for Christmas?

We do our utmost to have most berries available over this period, however demand is high on the 23rd and 24th. We recommend you get in early, pick your own a few days before and keep them refrigerated.
